LandSpace Unveils its strategy to harness methane and liquid oxygen as the primary propellants for the Zhuque-2E Y2. Unlike traditional hydrocarbon fuels, methane offers significant advantages it is safer, more environmentally friendly, and easier to source. Moreover, methane reduces carbon residue inside the engines, allowing for easier reuse and longer life cycles. This technological choice represents a major step forward not only for LandSpace but also for the wider aerospace industry, which has increasingly turned toward methane as the fuel of the future. The company has also announced plans to conduct tests of a fully reusable version of the rocket in the second half of 2025, incorporating innovations such as sub-cooled propellants to enhance thrust and efficiency.
LandSpace Unveils a vision that goes beyond technological breakthroughs. By focusing on reusability and cost reduction, the company aims to make space exploration more accessible to smaller nations, startups, and research institutions that often face budgetary constraints. This shift could transform the economics of the space industry, enabling more diverse players to enter orbit and contribute to global scientific progress. More importantly, it underscores the importance of sustainability, as reusable rockets and cleaner fuels reduce both environmental and financial costs. With this bold approach, LandSpace has positioned itself at the forefront of a new era in spaceflight, one that combines innovation with inclusivity and responsibility.
